The Independence Stadium was full of music enthusiasts last weekend as Jamaican and Gambian singers put on an outstanding show.
Thousands of people attended the International Roots Homecoming Festival’s musical jamboree, organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
Our reporter on the ground said it was a fantastic turnout with people travelling far and wide to be at the stadium.
Several local artists, including Jali Madi Kanuteh and Humanity Stars, performed before giving way to the most anticipated performance of the night.
And it was the Jamaican superstar, Sizzla Kalonji. It was his second appearance in the country. But his performance was cut short due to power outage. NAWEC always disappoints!
One concert-goer, Dominic Chima Ntodonke, said: “Should we call NAWEC’s action carelessness or sabotage. When the whole world are in stress, our government put a big show to cheer us up and someone in control at NAWEC took it for granted. I was there and I was very pissed off.”
Lamin Saaba Manka added: “The show was nice, well attended but NAWEC disappointed at the later part of the show.”
More than two hundred black people in the Diaspora are currently in the country to attend the 11th Edition of the International Roots Homecoming Festival. It ends on Thursday with a Gala Dinner and Awards at the Senegambia Beach Hotel.
