Tima La Waato crowned Queen of Culture for promoting Mandinka culture

Fatou Drammeh, popularly known as Tima La Watoo, was recently crowned Queen of Culture for her contribution to the promotion of Mandinka culture and language.

The deputy alkalo of Brikama Kabafita gave the crown to the 31-year-old at a special ceremony in Brikama that was attended by dozens of her fans.

Tima La Watoo, who has more than 6,000 followers on Facebook, said she felt honoured to receive the crown and will make efforts to further promote the Mandinka culture worldwide.

In a brief chat with What's On-Gambia, she disclosed: "Right now in The Gambia, I am the only young person who is actively promoting Mandinka culture and language and I guess that's why they decided to crown me.

“I am proud of my culture. I will use my new position to encourage more young people to embrace and promote their culture.”

A former student of Gambia Senior Secondary School, the newly crowned Queen of Culture once worked as a presenter at the Capital FM along Kairaba Avenue.
