TV star Jainaba Sonko has stirred up conversation by claiming that Chinese men are more romantic than Gambian men.
Jainaba, a prominent presenter on QTV, is currently in China as one of 94 journalists from 84 countries participating in a four-month media fellowship program organized by the China International Press Communication Centre (CIPCC) in Beijing.
In a TikTok video, the young presenter commented on the romantic behavior of Chinese men, saying: “I was walking down the street and saw a Chinese man carrying his partner on his back.”
She added, “Even elderly couples in China aren’t shy about showing affection. Gambian men could learn from this; Chinese men are very romantic.”
Her video sparked mixed reactions from her followers. One of them responded: “We have different cultures—what’s normal there might not be the same here.”
Another said: “Don’t jump to conclusions. There’s more to love than holding hands. Those who’ve lived with them for years know better.”
