UK-based Gambian, Alasan Gent Ceesay has received a Special Recognition award from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom for "selfless service for Country and Community" at a ceremony of pomp and royalty at this year's Buckingham Palace Garden Party on Tuesday.

Mr. Ceesay, a former member of the elite Grenadier Guards (the most senior regiment of the Guards Division that protects Buckingham Palace, and has the Queen as the Colonel-In-Chief) was nominated for the achievement by The Band of Brothers for distinguished service to both country and community.

Alasan, who moved to England more than 8 years ago, is heavily involved in his community and charitable activities.

Apart from being the General Secretary of Association of East Village Residents, he's the founder and Chairman of a charity for teachers in The Gambia called Teaching Award Trust The Gambia.

Ceesay was joined several more individuals from all walks of life who have made a positive impact on their community. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, graced the occasion.

Every year the Queen hosts the Royal Garden parties as a way to recognise and reward public service.
