Before social media live streams became popular, Waka Jagne was already making waves in the media industry as the first Gambian to host a television show in the United Kingdom on Ben TV.
Recognized for his popularity and close connection with Gambians living abroad, Ben TV offered Waka the opportunity to host a program dedicated to Gambian audiences in the UK. The show became a platform for entertainment, cultural promotion, and community engagement, strengthening ties among Gambians across the diaspora.
During his time on television, Waka conducted two interviews with former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh. His second interview was particularly significant, as he was invited to travel from the UK to The Gambia for the exclusive engagement.
Waka, who currently works with Africell, also made history by becoming the first person to consistently air Gambian music videos on UK television. His efforts gave Gambian artists international exposure and allowed Gambians living abroad to stay connected to their music and cultural identity.
In addition to promoting Gambian entertainment, Waka played an important role in supporting Senegalese music in the UK. He helped bring more than 15 Senegalese artists and bands to perform for African audiences, contributing to the growth of African cultural entertainment within the diaspora community.
Through his media and cultural contributions, Waka Jagne helped preserve and promote Gambian traditions in the UK, inspiring younger generations born abroad to remain connected to their heritage and identity.
