Senegalese singer Wally Seck has announced a pause in his music career following reports linking him to a high-profile money laundering investigation.
According to Senegalese media, Wally is currently in Dubai and may face arrest upon returning to Dakar, where authorities are said to have issued a warrant for him.
The allegations stem from an intelligence report by the National Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (CENTIF), which monitors suspicious financial transactions and investigates money laundering, related crimes, and terrorist financing.
The probe centers on a controversial withdrawal of 5.597 billion CFA francs, with Wally among those allegedly tied to the transactions. The case has also drawn in Amadou Sall, son of former President Macky Sall, who is believed to be at the heart of the scandal.
In a video widely circulated on social media, Wally denied any wrongdoing. He explained that the only transaction he was involved in was the sale of a car to Amadou Sall, insisting that the money he received was strictly payment for that vehicle.
Reactions to the accusations have been divided. Some supporters argue Wally is being unfairly targeted because of his perceived closeness to figures from the former administration. Others insist that if he is confident of his innocence, he should return to Senegal and cooperate with investigators rather than remain abroad.
Observers fear that if Wally does return, he could be detained, as has happened with other individuals linked to the disputed CFA 5.597 billion transfer.
