He was bigger than ST and Jizzle, but Bai Babu dropped off the radar after his debut Europe tour. So what happened?
His song Fahass, which garnered more than 2 million views on YouTube propelled him to international fame, almost instantly making him the most popular young Gambian musician in neighbouring Senegal.
But despite his meteoric success, Bai Babu went silent after just a few years in the public eye.
In December 2019, the Tallinding-born announced in an Instagram post that he will be returning to the Gambian music scene very soon.
"Expect the unexpected music. The return of the landlord," he wrote.
One of his followers, @bundunboyo commented: "Those who say that you will never return, thunder will fire them all. Wish you all the best bro. Your heart is really clean, God will bless you for your next move."
Born Babucarr Sambou, the singer was a household name both in The Gambia and neighbouring Senegal. He won multiple awards including Rap-Mbalax Artist of the Year.
