The principal of Muslim Senior Secondary School in Banjul has rubbished claims by former diplomat Bamba Mass that President Adama Barrow provided a fake GCE O Level certificate to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in 2016.
”The certificate I gave him is not fake. He came to the school and told us that he's a former student who sat the GCE O Level examination in 1988, but never collected his certificate. The vice principal was around,” said Mr Lamin K. Marong.
He continued: ”We were able to confirm that he was a student. He came from Crab Island Technical Secondary School in Banjul. Barrow completed form 5 at Muslim.”
When asked whether Barrow passed his GCE examination, Marong fumed: ”Don’t implicate me. I will not discuss the content of his certificate with you unless he gives me the clearance to do so. ”
In a Facebook video that garnered thousands of views, former diplomat Bamba Mass, who recently fell out of favour with the president, alleged Barrow submitted a forged GCE certificate to the IEC in fulfilment of the requirements to run for president.
”Schools do not produce GCE /WASSCE certificates, they are only kept in schools before collected by owners. Bamba should contact the IEC about Barrow’s certificate or WAEC for verification", said Marong.
