It's a fact now. More and more Mandinkas are marrying light-skinned Fula women. This is the current trend and What's On-Gambia doesn't need any statistics to prove this.

Just walk around Brikama, Sukuta, Bakau, Brufut or Gunjur and you would come across a Mandinka man accompanying his Fula wife to the market to buy food for the family.

One Sira Bah from the Upper River Region jokingly disclosed: "I think the reason why Mandinkas like us is because we are undeniably beautiful and not dominating in nature."

She continued: "We allow our men to take the responsibility. Mandinka men, who enjoy importance, love Fula women for this."

When asked if she wants a Mandinka husband, Sira quickly responded: "For me, character, values and personality are the most important things."

Former minister and opposition leader Mai Ahmed Fatty is among the many prominent Mandinkas who recently married Fula women. His wife is a light-skinned beauty from the Sinchu area in the West Coast Region.
