Waka Mbye has joined calls for Lawyer Ousainou Darboe to quit politics, claiming he is not destined to be a president.
In a Facebook live video, the young imam appealed to the UDP leader to withdraw from the spotlight and devote more time to the worship of Allah.
“He is highly respected. He fought for The Gambia for 22 years, but I want him to know that it’s Allah who picks leaders,” said Waka, who was once a prominent youth leader in Banjul.
The US-based imam went further to condemn Darboe’s refusal for his party to contest in the parliamentary election under the banner of the Coalition.
“It was not only UDP that defeated Jammeh. We all came together to win the presidential election.”
He told Darboe: “Give chance to the youth and stop the wrangling.”
Waka’s live video generated more than 9,000 views and 176 shares on Facebook.
