More and more young Gambians are now joining gay dating websites to find European gay or bi-sexual men who are willing to spend money on them.
Dozens of them have joined PlanetRomeo, also known as Romeo, which has more than three million users across the globe.
In exchange for money or a visa to Europe, the boys would invite the gay men to The Gambia to offer them whatever they want including unprotected sex.
One of the boys (name withheld) wrote on Romeo: “I am here to look for a soulmate.”
Another one wrote: “Hello, I am gay in The Gambia, looking for a serious relationship.”
PlanetRomeo, which was launched in 2002 in Berlin, Germany, is one of the largest community of gay, bi, and transgenders on the planet. The website and apps are currently available in six languages.
