Topping our list of the 10 most-talked about Gambians of the year 2020 is Corporal Kaddy Jarju of the Gambia Police Force (GPF). The young woman became the nation's favourite female officer after a photo emerged online showing her controlling traffic during heavy rains.
The photo garnered more than 15,000 likes on What's On-Gambia's Facebook page. She received multiple gifts including 250,000 donated by Gambians in the Diaspora.
But Kaddy wasn't the only one who set tongues wagging.
Coming in second on our list is the former director of America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Melville Roberts. The Oxford graduate, who now lives in the UK, was accused of rape and other sexual offences by multiple women.
Melville denied the allegations, and the case was never mentioned in court for reasons still unknown to the public.
Other famous people that made a lot of waves in 2020 are Essa Faal of the TRRC and former Justice Minister Ba Tambadou.
During the early days of the COVID-19 lockdown, the TRRC lead counsel was the only prominent Gambian who was out in the streets distributing food to the most vulnerable families.
Meanwhile, his former boss, Ba Tambadou became an international star after dragging Aung Su Kyi to the Hague to deny that Myanmar (Burma) was committing genocide against Rohingya Muslims.
The nation's tongues were also set wagging when journalist Fatou Camara attacked First Lady Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow for allegedly dirtying the image of her Sierra Leonean counterpart, who was in the country to attend the TFN Heroes Award.
"I am calling on Fatou Bah Barrow and her people to stop," she wrote on Facebook.
Also on our list for making a splash is footballer Musa Barrow. During the last season, the Kanifing star made history by becoming the youngest player to score eight goals in the Italian Serie A.
Another athlete who was on everyone's lips was the country's track and field queen, Gina Bass. In February 2020, she won the 60m women’s sprint final in the IAAF World Athletics indoors game in Germany recording an impressive timing of 7.16 seconds.
Other people that made this year quite an interesting ride are Gambia-based American YouTuber, Art Cathey, 3 Years Jotna's Abdou Njie and Imam Baba Leigh of Kanifing Estate.
