Although only 11 years old, but Fatoumatta Jobe of St Therese's Lower Basic School in Kanifing speaks five languages.
Fatoumatta was born in Kerewan Samba Sira in the Central River Region but moved with her family to New Jeshwang when she was in nursery school.
The 11-year-old can communicate fluently in Fula, Mandinka, Wollof, Serahule, and English.
Her mother, a clearing agent at the Port of Banjul, disclosed when Fatoumatta arrived in New Jeshwang, she was already fluent in Mandinka and Fula.
"In my home village of Kerewang Samba Sira, we have both Mandinkas and Fulas. Most of the children are fluent in both languages," said the mother.
She continued: "Fatoumatta learned to speak Serahule and Wollof in the Kombo. We were renting in a Serahule compound."
Fatoumatta soaks up languages like a sponge, according to her mother.
