Many Gambians were shocked and disappointed after a sex tape allegedly featuring popular music producer JLive surfaced on social media. The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussion among young people across the country.
Instead of retreating from the spotlight, JLive posted several short clips on his social media accounts that appeared to mock those expressing outrage and disappointment. His reaction fueled public anger, with some Gambians taking to social media to demand his arrest for indecent behavior.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, JLive later reported the matter to the Senegambia Police Post, seeking assistance in identifying and apprehending the individual responsible for leaking the private video.
In a public statement that followed, the producer expressed remorse and apologized to his fans, family, and the Gambian public.
“I want to sincerely apologise to my family, my friends, and everyone who looks up to me. I know this has brought shame, pain, and disappointment to many of you, and for that I am truly sorry,” he wrote.
JLive clarified that the video was recorded two years ago and was never intended for public viewing. He claimed that his phone had been hacked and the footage was leaked without his consent.
“This video was never meant for the public eye, and seeing it surface now has broken me in ways I can’t fully explain,” he added. “I never imagined I would have to make a statement like this, but life sometimes throws us into very painful situations.”
The music producer concluded by appealing to the public for understanding and support as he works to recover from the scandal.
