Alhamdulilah! President Barrow vows to fight corruption

Following his inauguration on January 19 at the Independence Stadium, President Adama Barrow has vowed to fight corruption in The Gambia.

He said his government would do everything possible to tighten the noose around corruption and improve the citizens' lives through social and economic progress.

The president made this promise in a press release on the Gam Petroleum corruption saga that received widespread attention as it involved some of the most influential people in the country.

Government spokesperson Ebrima G Sankareh wrote that Barrow, who officially started his second term last week, is now committed to rooting out corruption and ensuring that fair and transparent business practices are upheld with equal opportunities for all in the country.

Meanwhile, his minister of tourism and culture, Hamat Bah was this week summoned by the National Assembly over corruption allegations including the illegal allocation of land in the Tourism Development Area.

Hamat is the first minister in Gambian history to be publicly accused of corruption by his own staff. They claimed their boss is blatantly corrupt.
