All set for Gambia’s first Kora Awards

The first edition of the Gambia Kora Awards has been fixed for Friday, January 8th at the Samega Janneh Hall, opposite Buffer Zone in the Kanifing Municipality.

The organiser of this important award, Prince Kuyateh, said preparations are in full swing to accord the maiden edition all the pomp and pageantry it deserves.

He told What's On-Gambia: "We want the event to be a great experience for the creative and hardworking kora musicians in the country including my own father, Jaliba Kuyateh."

Prince added: "It's going to be the first of its kind and we are expecting some famous Mandinka griots to attend. Tata Dinding is the host of the night."

The Gambia Kora Awards is going to be a celebration of merit and excellence in the country's Manding music scene. The award will be divided into many categories to recognise The Gambia's finest griots.
