It is becoming more and more common to hear about young couples, some with children, getting divorced. What’s wrong with the Gambian society?
Below is an advice from a young woman, who is successfully married:
-
Respect each other and try to find something you love to do together. The problem with many marriages in the country is that couples rarely spend enough time together.
- Women should learn the art of seduction. You cannot tell me only Senegalese are mokka pojje. Make sure you always have thiouraye in your bed room, and don’t forget the bin bin. Take care of your man.
-
Always try to spice up your sex life and make marriage exciting. Many young couples in The Gambia have problem communicating about sex. Try to practice foreplay; don’t just jump right into the sex. And remember missionary position is not the only sex position in the world. -
Don’t let your parents, siblings or friends to break your marriage. Most in-laws should be considered out-laws. As a couple, you need to have your independence. Give priority to each other over everything else in your life. -
Stop creating crises over small stuffs. Avoid using cruel words and insults that may be difficult to forget. Don’t use each other’s weakness as ammunition during arguments. -
Show appreciation to each other regularly. It helps a lot to reinforce intimacy, trust and satisfaction.
