A former student of the Gambia Methodist Academy, Aurelia Prom has been hugely praised for her stellar performance singing the Gambian National Anthem at the inauguration of President Adama Barrow at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Following Aurelia’s excellent performance, Facebook went into over drive as Gambians both home and abroad praised the singer for her effort.
“Outstanding performance to be remembered for ages to come to the world over," wrote one Maria Dacosta.
Another Facebook user, Fatou Bojang added: “This genius so much captured my soul.”
Melville Robertson Roberts of Banjul disclosed that he identified Aurelia for the task to the Organising Committee.
“I was not in some way part rather this was my sole idea. Never before had the national anthem of our country been sung by a soloist at a national event. I wanted to add colour and lustre to an already phenomenal event and trust me Aurelia Prom did not disappoint or let me down and she is the admiration of the entire world.”
US-based journalist, Demba Baldeh described Aurelia as The Gambia’s Whitney Houston.
However, the young singer has so far not responded to the praises showered on her since her performance in front of a packed stadium.
