Austrian woman warns Gambians against marrying British women

An Austrian woman, Maimuna Jallow, has warned Gambian men against marrying British women, saying such unions don’t last long.

Commenting on What’s On-Gambia’s Facebook page, she alleged British women are notorious for treating their black husbands like slaves.

“Please Gambian boys stop marrying just any European woman, especially British. They will treat you like slaves (because it is in their blood). Look who you marry before you marry.”

Maimuna is one of the many Europeans that keenly follow What’s On-Gambia. Since joining our Facebook page, she has developed a sizeable reputation for her controversial views on Gambian-toubab marriages.

However, her outrageous views on British women didn’t go on unchallenged. One Lisa Bennett Sillah from Newcastle Upon Tyne in England argued: “women go to The Gambia from all over the world and meet men and they also have marriage problems.”

She added: “I'm a British woman and I’m a good wife to my husband and I also look after my family in The Gambia, if people have problems in their marriage that's down to them, not down to the fact she is British.”

Norwegian woman, Tayla Inger Bekkelund, who regularly visits the country, was quick to jump to Maimuna’s defense. She said: “I hear about British women many times when I have been in The Gambia. Many Gambian people really don’t like them.”
