Sad news came out over the weekend of the death of famous party boy, Babou Jobe. Many are still wondering if speed was the only factor in the fatal car crash.
It is believed that Babou was behind the wheel of the vehicle when he lost control around the IEC junction on Kairaba Avenue, with the Mercedes Benz 200 somersaulting and hitting a NAWEC electric pole.
He was killed instantly and his friend who was sitting in front, also tragically passed away. The two passengers at the back seat, one of them a girl, were left with major internal injuries.
Babou and his friends were reportedly on their way home from Pape Diouf’s concert at the Kairaba Beach Hotel.
One Eddie Baldeh was among the first people to arrive at the scene. He wrote on Facebook: “It was the most fatal accident I witnessed. I arrived at the scene less than 5 minutes after it happened. The car was actually speeding and the driver was thought to have lost control of it due to unknown reason. It was believed that when he tried to break the car, (knowingly or unknowingly I'm not sure) it turned which led him to hit the Nawec concrete pole.”
He added: “Together with hundreds of youths coming out of Alliance Franco for the Miss Fula Peagent , we tried hard to remove them from the damaged car but were unsuccessful. I had to call the fire and rescue services who promptly arrived at the scene to help.”
The Fire and Rescue Services, according to The Point, had to cut parts of the car to get the victims out. They were all taken to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.
The Police PRO, ASP Lamin Njie revealed that the horrific accident happened on Sunday in the early hours of the morning. According to him, speed was likely to have been a factor.
Friends and family of Babou have penned heartfelt tributes on Facebook. Former club DJ, Jatou Mbowe said he was a young man full of life.
“Never a dull moment with him. May Allah grant him the highest Janneh,” she wrote.
May his soul rest in peace!
