Bakoteh shopkeeper disappears with customers’ money

By Tumani

The Bakoteh Police are on the lookout for a shopkeeper who vanished with nearly D50,000 entrusted to him by his customers.

According to one Aisha Tambedou, Mamadou allegedly disappeared with D20,000 belonging to her sister and an additional D25,000 from another individual.

Since his disappearance, Mamadou has reportedly turned off his phone.

"My sister works as a maid, so she gave him her three months' salary to keep for her. The total was D20,000. Last week, Mamadou suddenly vanished. We tried calling him several times, but to no avail," said Aisha.

She further explained that the shop, located at the Bakoteh Estate, is still operating.

Aisha revealed: "Normally, they switch. One shopkeeper can be there for some time, then leave and be replaced by another shopkeeper."

The new shopkeeper was arrested for questioning. He claimed to have no knowledge of Mamadou's whereabouts or the missing money.
