The presidency of Adama Barrow has begun and he may already be setting himself for infighting and division in his Coalition.
Reliable information reaching What’s On-Gambia revealed that there is wrangling among the party leaders over alleged conflict of interest as to what to do with the former president and how to run the country during the 3-year transition.
Meanwhile, in an interview with TFM, the flagbearer and new president, Adama Barrow surprised many when he suggested that he might stay longer in power than the 3 years agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding.
“The three years is an agreement among parties, the constitution says five years. In the three years, we have a lot to do. Whether we will be able to complete or not, we don’t know,” he told TV viewers.
In a rather apparent change of tone, Barrow added that he can’t tell whether after the three years he would step down or not.
“We want to have a strong foundation and make the job easier for my successor.”
There are speculations that PDOIS under the leadership of Halifa Sallah might be the first party to abandon the Coalition.
