Barrow wants to delay ministerial appointments until after his inauguration

President Adama Barrow wants to delay the appointment of ministers until after his inauguration for a second term on January 19, according to a State House insider.

The insider, who begged for anonymity, told What's On-Gambia that the president is taking his time to avoid making mistakes.

Many Gambians including members of his own party, the NPP want him to refresh his government removing ministers like Hamat Bah who was in 2020 accused by his own staff of corruption and abuse of office.

But the Gambian leader, who won the December 4 election by a landslide, is likely to resist any decision until after his inauguration.

"There will be no appointments now. He is nervous about creating enemies among the people who fought tooth and nail to get him re-elected," said the insider.

Transport, Works And Infrastructure minister Bai Lamin Jobe, Vice President Dr Isatou Touray, Fisheries minister James Gomez, Higher Education minister Badara Joof and many others might lose their jobs.

Former Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service in the Jammeh government, Dr Njogu Bah will bounce back. He is said to be valued by the president for his political and administrative skills.

Opposition leader Dr Ismaila Ceesay is tipped to be the next minister of Higher Education. He's a former lecturer at the University of the Gambia.

Meanwhile, several young people in the NPP, who were part of the president's campaign team including Ahmad Gitteh, Seedy Njie and Nyima Kinteh have impressed their party leader and could bag senior positions in the government.
