Two European volunteers of the Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust were walking their dogs on Sunday evening when they stumble upon a dead woman in the Makasuta forest, near the river.
In a Facebook post, the charity disclosed: "The police were called but took three hours to get to the site and a further three hours later they made the decision to bury her where she was."
They added: "Apart from the shock of finding a body, there was a certain amount of culture shock for both the volunteers and staff at the handling of the situation. Our staff are trained to treat dead bodies with respect and this young lady should have been no exception."
Many details still remain missing regarded the woman, who was found fully clothed:
- - She's still unknown.
- - The circumstances of her death are unclear.
- - The police still did not issue any statement after burying the woman in the forest.
One of the European volunteers who found the body told What's On:Gambia: "We were so upset that she was buried immediately. The police said they do not have facilities to keep the body. How will they ever be able to find her justice or her family."
