Ya Haddy Sallah is probably the first Gambian international student to bag a degree in Medicine from the prestigious Yale University in the United States.
The young doctor wrote on Twitter: "As an immigrant to the US, I was told on my 1st day here that international students rarely (read as never) get accepted into US medical schools. 10 years later, I'm a graduate of the Yale School of Medicine and heading to the residency program of my dream."
Former University of The Gambia students' union leader, Ebrima Sonko commented: "Hearty congratulations Ya Haddy. The entire Gambia is proud of your accomplishment. This is mega!"
One Chris Hall wrote: "Living the dream because you did that. You worked hard, persevered, defied the odds and now you have defined the new way it goes. So many behind you will thank you. So many ahead in your career will thank you. Wonderful stuff."
Yale University is one of the top educational institutions in the world, and some of the world's greatest minds once attended the school.
