Celebrating 20+ years in journalism: Win (GMD 10,000) ten thousand Gambian dalasi

The year 2013 marked 20 years since I start practising Journalism. 

From a humble beginning in 1993 under the mentor-ship of Ebrima G Sankareh and Deyda Hydara at The Point Newspaper in The Gambia, I grew through the ranks to become the Correspondent of The Voice of America English to Africa, reporter for the BBC Focus on Africa and freelancer for Deutsche Welle of Germany. 

Before leaving The Gambia in 1998 for global adventure and learning, I applied my expertise as Producer of News and Current Affairs at the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) under the professional guidance of Bora Mbodge. 

Parallel to my other activities that include behind-the-scene film businesses, I remain active commentator and contributor to online and offline papers namely, The Gambia Echo, Maafanta, Gainako, Kibaaro, Jollofnews, The Voice Newspapers, The Standard Newspaper, The Daily News, Freedom Newspaper, American Street News, Hello Gambia, Senegambia News, All Gambian, to name a few. 

On the year of my 20th anniversary in this enviable and highly influential media profession in 2013, I launched my own multi-platform media house as part of my life goal of becoming a respected media tycoon. 

Now this 21-year life achievement will not go uncelebrated. For this reason, I am floating this modest competition for my fans and all those who are interested to try out their luck.

All you have to do is to answer this question: WHAT IS THE MEANING OF “SANKANU KANGORO”? I mean my surname in traditional Sarahulleh sense. 

A cousin of mine says it means “SAXUN NA ANXANU”. Sarahulleh for “relax and let me make love to you.” Sounds sweet and romantic but that is just the cousin-to-cousin humour!

The real historic meaning is there.
