Darboe to skip Barrow’s swearing-in

The leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Ousainou ANM Darboe will not be at the stadium to witness President Adama Barrow's inauguration, according to information reaching What's On-Gambia.

Darboe, who has not appeared in public since December 4, is yet to concede defeat in the 2021 presidential election. His party's petition against Barrow's victory was rejected by the Supreme Court.

Barrow will be sworn in for his second term later today at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

But Darboe is not the only opposition leader skipping the ceremony that would be attended by six heads of state from Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Togo, Ghana and Liberia.

According to the Gambia Democratic Congress' youth president MC Cham Jnr, his party leader Mama Kandeh will not be at the stadium.

"We don't recognize Barrow as president. The election wasn't fair and transparent," he said.
