The Ministry of Health (MoH) driver in the deadly crash on Sunday that took the lives of two prominent journalists was speeding at the time of the accident, according to a source.
Musa Ndow and Pa Modou Faal were on their way to Mansa Konko for a workshop when the driver swerved off and crashed into a bush just after 10 pm, killing the duo who were sitting in the backseat of the car.
"The driver was overspeeding because he wanted to drop them and return to the Kombo the same night, said our source.
Momodou Njie, Director of Health Promotion and Education, disclosed: "It is sad that Musa Ndow and Pa Modou Faal are no more due to a car accident. They were going to attend my meeting in Mansakonko with my vehicle and they had an accident on the way and three people including Musa Ndow and Pa Modou Faal died on the spot."
The dead bodies were evacuated and deposited at the mortuary of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.
According to police sources, the driver was arrested on Monday and might appear in court for rash and negligent driving causing death, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.
