Land dispute is now a common phenomenon in Gambia but that a father and her daughter would enter the ring over a piece of land would sound more of a fiction to many Gambians.
Yet, even after losing a court case to her father, Mama Ceesay, 27, who appears to have also lost affection for her father, is not giving up on her Brusubi plot.
“My father is not good,” the Spain-based young Gambian woman said of Modou Ceesay of Ebo Town.
She added: “He ruined my marriage and now, I live alone with my children. I want the authorities to help me regain the plot.”
Mama said that the trouble began when her father sold a piece of land (100x25) belonging to her husband without their knowledge and consent.
She alleged further: “My husband bought the land in 2008 and left all the papers with my dad. He also gave him nearly D1.5m to develop it. But he decided to divide it to sell the land to Lebanese businessmen.
“My husband has abandoned me and our two children, because he thinks I was aware of everything and benefitted from the money. My father is a scammer and a fake money doubler.”
Mama’s parents separated when she was four and was living with her mum in Manjai Kunda until in 2008 when he joined her husband in Barcelona, Spain.
“I wasn’t having the best relationship with my dad, but my husband liked and trusted him a lot and this is why he left his compound papers with him,”
In 2012, the row was taken to court and her father was briefly detained. But the case ended up in the father’s favour, leaving her with a legal bill of more than D100, 000.
“He hired Lawyer Sheriff Tambedou and I don’t know how they convinced the magistrate to throw the case out,” she said.
