Famous Gambian rapper, Big Faa has been refused a visa to England, because the British Embassy wasn’t convinced he would return home to The Gambia upon expiration of his visa.
The Anything Anything hit maker was invited by Joluv Arts and Champion Sounds to open for Senegalese superstar, Wally Secka on the 26th August in London.
According to ST, who was also denied a visa to the same event, Big Faa’s application was rejected because the embassy thought he would abscond and start a new life in England.
Many took to social media to condemn the British Embassy urging the government to intervene.
Reggae singer and producer, ENC wrote: “To tell you the truth, most of the artists that are denied visas are not even interested in "staying" out there for a month because they have working careers in GAMBIA already that's putting food on the table... Someone should understand that this is not just "Traveling" to the west, this is work!”
Bankie Grey-Johnson also commented: “This is an issue that I'm constantly trying to fight. We have to address the ridiculous visa rejection rates for people of this country. It's amazing how the west doesn't see things like this as what makes the Backway phenomenon possible.”
However, some blamed the organisers for not providing sufficient supporting documents to the British Embassy.
