The director of health services at the ministry of health has become the first man ever to have two medical doctors as co-wives.
Dr Mustapha Bittaye, who once worked as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Medical Research Council (MRC), took a second wife on Sunday, April 25.
His second wife, Mariama Drammeh was his deputy at the ministry of health. She became a medical doctor at the age of 25 after completing her medical degree at the School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences - University of The Gambia, then went on to obtain a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene and a Master's in Tropical Medicine and international Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Photos of the couple are currently making the rounds on social and it has generated a lot of reaction from their own colleagues in the medical field.
A Gambian doctor in the USA joking told What's On-Gambia: "Dr Bittaye is the first man in history to make two medical doctors co-wife to each other. I call it "medicogamy" in my books."
"Alhamdulilah! My personal doctor is taken. May Allah bless the union and make baraka in the marriage, officially madam Bittaye," one Satou Camara Dabo wrote on Facebook.
Dr Bittaye is unquestionably one of the best doctors in the country. He's polite, calm and friendly. His first wife is also a highly respected doctor who works for the MRC as a consultant.
