Eva Sarr says URR’s Seneras are not Gambians

She’s famous on social media for stirring up controversies, but Eva Sarr’s latest comments have sparked a huge amount of backlash.

According to the UK-based social media commentator, the Seneras of the Upper River Region are not Gambians and should not be issued ID cards.

“Is only in The Gambia that a foreign citizen can get away with so many things,” Eva said, adding: “Ask Gambians how they suffered and the hassled they went through just to have their citizenship.”

Latirr Carr and Femi Mahoney were among those who reacted with fury to her rant.

One Saul Sarr wrote: “Eva Sarr, what an ignorant xenophobic fool. So if you have a foreign sounding name then you aren’t a born citizen? How would you feel if a white Brit says your children who got foreign names aren't British born? You will cry racism. Have you ever thought that some people have foreign heritage?

Femi, who is known for not mincing his words, said: The issue is, ignorant people like Eva Sarr only know about Banjul and Serekunda. So, she lacks the knowledge of who and what it takes to be a Gambian. There’s nothing like a GAMBIAN NAME, you fool. OBAMA a Kenyan name was the American President.”

Facebook user, Sali Saidy also commented:  “There is more to citizenship than just a name sis. Some could argue Eva isn’t a GAMBIAN name too.”

“Xenophobia plus ignorance. Just sad. . . I'm embarrassed for you,” added Abiye Romeo.
