Fatima Badjie has set a record as the country’s youngest minister ever when she was appointed to serve as Minister of Communications, Information and Information Technology.  The beautiful young lady had undoubtedly been the princess of Jammeh’s cabinet.

She was only 24, working at the time for a private company. Fatima held the ministerial position for a year and was removed. She bounced back two years later, this time round as Minister of Health and Social Welfare.

But after losing her first ministerial job in 2009, Fatima entered into business. According to her, she took everything she had to start Ace Communication Executive (ACE) – a communications and PR firm.

In a video interview with Africa.co’s Ramatoulie Gassma, the former minister said: “One of the reasons I opened the company is because I was getting a lot of job offers and then it came to me why would I work for someone. Why not instead I set up an establishment?”

She added: “Luckily for me, I was able to start the business with my earning and that was in 2009. I took everything I had to start ACE. So with that it gave me a good foundation.”

Born in 1983, Fatima is from an influential Kairaba Avenue family. Her father, Dembo Badjie, is one of the most competent and seasoned civil servants in the country.

The 31-year-old entrepreneur attended Tennessee State University in the USA, where she bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. After completing her studies, she returned home to pursue a career in marketing and communications.

Shortly after her appointment as Minister of Communications, Information and Information Technology, Fatima got married to the current Works Minister, Balla Garba Jahumpa’s nephew, Abdoulie Janneh, a banker amid a much pomp wedding ceremony. But the marriage was short-lived and childless.
