GRTS news anchor Fatoumatta Ceesay made history on Sunday as the first female journalist to ever announce the results of a presidential election.
The young journalist was invited by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to assist chairman Alh. Alieu Momor Njie.
Shortly after announcing the final results that confirmed President Adama Barrow as the winner of the election, Fatoumatta took to her Facebook page and wrote: "I feel extremely honoured and humbled to have assisted The Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission of The Gambia in announcing results of the 2021 Presidential Election of The Republic of The Gambia."
One of her followers, Abdourahim Ibn Ahmad Jallow wrote: "You did wonderfully well. We are all proud of you. Thank you for your services. Please keep going higher."
Another follower commented: "It was great, your voice was extraordinary.
My attention was all of a sudden shifted to you not the chairman's declaration."
Fatoumatta said the mission was oustandandingly successful and she thanked Gambians for their support.
