Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom has included an England-based Gambian on her Birthday's Honours List 2019.

The annual birthday honours list was recently announced and Dawda Jatta is among the people to be rewarded an MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for their outstanding services to the community.

According to a local newspaper, Hull Daily, the Gambian-born is the founder and CEO of BAMEEN - a community organisation promoting recycling, energy saving, local food production and environmental education training programmes in Hull and East Riding.

Dawda moved to the UK in 2006 to study Environmental Technology at the University of Hull.

In a Facebook post, he wrote: “Wow! I am pleased, honoured and humbled to accept this nomination and congratulations to all of this year's nominees. Thank you to those who nominated me and supported my nomination. Thanks to my family, friends and all those who have been supporting us.”
