GAMBIAN WITH COURAGE: Omar Jabang is the youngest magistrate in the country. The 23-year-old was appointed First Class Magistrate in February 2014, shortly after bagging a law degree at the University of The Gambia (UTG).
Omar is currently presiding over high profile cases at the Kanifing Magistrate Court. Last month, he famously acquitted former Ombudsman Alhagie Sowe. According to him, the prosecution put the accused in the box and then went to sleep.
“It was the prosecution that should have pursued the case diligently, instead of putting the liberty of the accused at risk,” the young magistrate told the court.
During his time at the UTG, Omar was a top notch student, graduating with distinction. Also, he was once selected as Best Arts Student at Nusrat SSS in 2009.
He is an exemplary young man. Thumbs up for Magistrate Omar Jabang!
