Gambians in Birmingham raising funds for new masjid

Praying five times a day is a must for devout Muslims, but finding a spacious place to worship in a major British city like Birmingham can be difficult.

As the Gambian population in Birmingham continues to grow, their current mosque is struggling to cope with the number of worshippers.

Now the elders of the community have launched an online fundraising to help secure a new mosque that can accommodate them all.

In a press release sent to What’s On-Gambia, they wrote:  “Our Gambian Community in Birmingham is trying to buy a place of worship with the help of Allah and the people. Our mosque that we using at the moment is rented and not really suitable for anything else (e.g Quran lessons, activities for kids/community-Marriage-Naming Ceremonies).

We recently found a place that will enable us to do more for our Gambian Community but need our family and friends to help us raise money to afford buying a Masjid.

To be able to achieve this we have set up a GofundMe account that anyone can donate money to and I have added the link below. Also for the one that would like to donate cash, Bank transfer or any other means we have these options available as well, our contact details can be found on the GoFundMe account.”
