It is really sad and heartbreaking: Eight workers have died and five others are in critical condition at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) after a fire accident at a gas plant along the Kombo Coastal Road.

Ramatoulie Jegan, aged 22; Sainey Jarju, 35; Kodou Corr, 32; Ebrima Gaye, 25; Alpha Jallow, 17; Modou Dem Jegan, 22; Muhammed Jegan, 19; and Sankung Kanteh,  45 succumbed to the severe burns they sustained in the accident.

The remaining five workers of Njegan Gas Company are fighting for their lives, according to reports reaching What’s On-Gambia.

The accident happened on the 1st October, 2014.

A brother to the proprietor of the company told Standard Newspaper: “There was an electric shock about 15 metres from where the victims were filling gas. The secretary called them for help and when they came they forgot they had gas on them and caught fire as they reached the area causing burns. It was not a gas explosion as reported because not a single gas exploded.”

Out of respect for the late workers and their families, we are not showing the images from the accident.  Our sincere prayers go out to them!
