GTBank are the champions of the 2017 edition of the Late Governor Famara Jatta Inter-Bank Football Tournament.
Opponents, Access Bank put up a respectable challenge in the finals played recently at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
GTBank won the game 3-1 in a penalty shootout following a goalless regulation time.
The Managing Director and CEO of the bank, Mr Bolaji Ayodele in a brief statement thanked the Orange Boys for delivering the trophy for the second time in five years.
He noted that to win the tournament without a defeat is an indication that the team has lived up to “excellence” which is one of the 7 Orange Rules of the bank.
En route to the finals, GTBank drew 1 all with Trust Bank in the first game before beating Skye Bank 2-1 in the second game. In the quarter finals, the Orange Boys’ victims were Arab Gambia Islamic Bank who fought frantically to earn a goalless draw in regulation time but bowed after a 4-2 score in the ensuing penalty shootout.
GTBank humbled Standard Chartered Bank 1 nil in the semi-finals to book a spot in the finals. The trophy is the second for GTBank having won the 2012 edition.
The tournament organised by the Central Bank of The Gambia aims to foster camaraderie among banks in The Gambia.
