Hellen Maroun tells ‘black’ Gambians: “By len racist ak bon”

If Hellen Maroun learnt from her ex wrestler husband the spirit of fighting back, it is only beginning to show.

“Just because our skin colour is white doesn’t make us any different,” the Lebanese-Gambian fired back.

This was in reactions to comments on a What’s On-Gambia story about a video showing a Maroun’s Supermarket worker flogging two defenseless young women with a belt for alleged shoplifting. Some claimed Lebanese businesses in the country have little respect for Gambians.

“For your information, the owner is more Gambian than most of you guys! Born and raised in The Gambia! Never went outside or back way to earn a living. Instead worked hard in our small peaceful Gambia and made it through hard work and determination,” said Hellen.

She added: “Besides, you see any Lebanese hitting them? It’s plain and clear that the man is black and GAMBIAN!! No orders from his boss! The girls begged to be flogged and not taken to the police. At least he used a belt and not a hard whipping stick or cane if I should say.”

The former wife of champion wrestler, Bala Gaye said ““Just because our skin colour is white doesn’t make us any different.”

According to her, ‘black’ Gambians should stop being racist towards Lebanese-Gambians.

“Lebanese people have nothing to do with this. By len racist ak bon! We are all the same! Chim! Mutakh njun Gambians dunj musa dem!!!”

Hellen is from one of the most prominent Lebanese families in the country. She used to manage Maroun’s Supermarket before her famous marriage to Bala.
