Increasing number of young women are using their bodies to make money

Some call them cooperate prostitutes and others call them vanity lovers. But to many Gambians, they are sugar babies.

These are young ladies, some of them as young as 20, who use their bodies to make money from men. They are active on Snapchat and Instagram, where they flaunt their extravagant gifts, showing off their money while pretending to be successful businesswomen.

Investigations by What's On-Gambia revealed some of these sugar babies date men who are old enough to be their father.

"Their sugar daddies are senior government officials, wealthy businessmen and scammers. The men believe dating them prolongs their life and serves as a stress reliever, especially when they have a troublesome wife or wives at home" said a source.

According to our source, the sugar daddies objectify their sugar babies giving them the status of sexual objects. Sometimes, they rent expensive apartments for them in quiet neighborhoods, where they can frequently visit them to have sex.

Is sugar babying prostitution

Many believe that being a sugar baby in The Gambia is all about sex for expensive gifts and money, but some of these relationships can come with unexpected twists.

Many sugar babies are now married to their sugar daddies as second, third or fourth wife. Some of them are among the biggest driankes in the country.
