She is an elderly woman and uses a wheelchair to get around, but that did not stop Cecilia Tabal from rolling to the Election House along the Bertil Harding Highway to witness the nomination of President Jammeh.
The frail pensioner was among thousands of avid APRC backers who flocked to Election House last week to show their support for the president’s re-election bid.
“The president was my neighbour in Latri Kunda, where he once lived in Tamba Kunda. I am behind him and will forever remind loyal until I die,” she told What’s On-Gambia.
Mrs Tabal added: “I am his aunty. He never calls me by my name. When he took over, I was employed to work as a controller at State House.
“He has done a lot for me and my family, sponsoring some of the young ones to pursue higher education. We are all going to vote for him on the 1st December.”
When asked to describe President Jammeh, the wheelchair-bound pensioner said: “He has a very big heart, very caring.”
Cecilia Tabal was among the first women to join the Gambia Police Force shortly before the country gained independence from Great Britain.
“I joined the police when I was 23 years old. I rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Superintendent (ASP) before my retirement.”
