Ousman Rambo Jatta last week redoubled his support for Yahya Jammeh, ignoring revelations at the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) that the former president was engaged in a series of human rights violations including summary executions and abductions.
In a WhatsApp voice message, the deputy leader for the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) said the allegations by the Junglers that Jammeh ordered for the killing of dozens of Gambians will never sway his support for his party's supreme leader.
"The TRCC and their revelations can't stop my support for Jammeh, because I don’t believe in one-sided stories."
Some members of the Gambian online community argued that APRC and its members should disassociate themselves from the ex-president and publicly denounce his alleged human rights violations.
"I used to feel that APRC had the right to exist in our Democracy. I change my mind. Help save its members from going to hell and BAN the party now! They shouldn’t be allowed to participate in the next elections," former GRTS reporter, Fatou Dibba wrote on Facebook.
However, Rambo argued that as a citizen of The Gambia, he has the right to support Jammeh and participate in the APRC.
The controversial politician further argued in the audio that his party's critics are all a bunch of hypocrites.
"No amount of intimidation and sabotage will stop me."
Former President Yahya Jammeh, who now lives in Equatorial Guinea after losing the 2016 Presidential Election, is yet to deny the multiple allegations of human rights violations against him.
