Is Essa Faal planning to run for president?

Is he or isn’t he?

That’s the question for the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission's lead counsel, Essa Faal.

There are rumours circulating among Gambians that the famous lawyer has plans to stand for President of the Republic of The Gambia.

One Malang Camara commented on Facebook: "Essa Faal is not a politician and I never heard him saying he wants to be a president."

Essa, who is yet to publicly acknowledge any political ambitions, seems to be taking steps to become more palatable to Gambians, from taking photos with fans to donating a plot of land to aTRRC witness Mafugie Sonko.

However, in an interview with Kerr Fatou, the lead counsel revealed he is also involved in business and might soon retire from law practice to focus on his businesses.

The Banjul-born is one of the many popular Gambians with Senegalese wives. Sources revealed he owns houses in Dakar.

If elected, he would not only be the first lawyer to enter the State House but he would also be the first Banjulian to win a presidential election and the first to have a First Lady from neighbouring Senegal.
