Thanks to the wonders of Facebook Live, nowadays it is no longer difficult to become an instant online celebrity in The Gambia.
Since the emergence of the new feature on the famous networking site, many young Gambians have been trying to get their unfair share of the spotlight. One among many who succeeded with thousands of followers is Isatou Sawaneh.
The Sweden-based party girl got famous by courting controversy and attention on Facebook at all cost. She regularly live-streams to discuss social issues with her ardent followers with dramatic flair and razzmatazz punctuated with her locally acquired Jamaican accent commonly known as patois.
Following the presidential election that brought Jammeh’s 22-year rule to an uneventful end, Isatou unsurprisingly became creative and shifted her attention to politics and even at one point launched a scathing attack on Belgium-based APRC supporter Haddy Yogurt.
The pair however made up in a dramatic Facebook live reconciliation with thousands watching and commenting live.
According to a source, the famous party girl came to Sweden as a child to join her mother. She’s now a naturalised Swedish citizen.
