A young man from Jarra in the Lower River Region has caused a stir after allegedly revealing in a Facebook Messenger conversation why he identifies as gay.

In the widely shared exchange, the young man claimed that when he was younger, he struggled to attract girlfriends and began feeling insecure about his “Demba Njie”, which he says influenced his decision to stop pursuing relationships with women.

When the person he was chatting with suggested he seek help regarding his concerns, the LRR boy reportedly fired back, asking why it should matter so much.

The conversation quickly escalated as the other individual warned him about the social and legal risks of same-sex relationships in The Gambia, reminding him that it could lead to imprisonment, and questioned whether he still intended to marry a woman.

In response, the LRR boy insisted that he is not worried about family expectations, stating that his siblings are married and his mother already has grandchildren, adding that he feels “safe” in his situation.

He also reportedly disclosed that his family is unaware of his sexuality and that he has no plans to tell them.
