Merr Gambia, one of The Gambia's oldest TikTok users, is standing her ground despite facing a barrage of negative comments from younger Gambians urging her to deactivate her account.

In one of her videos, Merr Gambia addressed the criticism, saying, "I heard that whenever an older woman joins TikTok, you insult her and tell her to go and worship Allah. I'm not going anywhere."

She went on to affirm her presence on the platform, "I will be here. If you TikTok, I TikTok. I live behind Kaur, and it’s very lonely here. That’s why I opened a TikTok account."

One of her followers commented, "Guys, please let Merr Gambia be. She’s just having fun like everyone else. TikTok isn’t about age."

Merr Gambia joined TikTok on August 17 and has since amassed over 6,500 followers and 37,000 likes. Her debut video has garnered an impressive 147,000 views.
