Mansata is using technology to help with dementia and mental health issues in Africa

A young Gambian in the United Kingdom, Mansata Kurang is putting a smile on many faces after creating an interactive virtual reality platform to help dementia patients with reminiscence therapy.

The 32-year-old is a trained mathematician and creative technologist who was born and brought up in The Gambia before moving to the UK to study Maths and Actuarial Science.

According to WIA Initiative, Mansata created the virtual reality application to help alleviate the depression and anxiety that comes with dementia.

She was in Morocco to attend the WIA Marrakech Summit, where her work was showcased. The Gambian-born said: “I was very proud to be a part of program 54 and to be able to represent my country of origin, The Gambia.”

Mansata added that she hopes her technology would benefit Africa and beyond.

After her appearance at the summit, she gained international recognition. The 32-year-old was named among the Top 10 People’s Champion and Top 100 Innovators in the UK by Sunday Times and Maserati List 2019.
