Mass resignation hits GRTS!

More than five senior staff members of the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) have resigned suddenly, including famous news anchor, Abdoulie Badjie.

According to an insider who spoke to What’s On-Gambia, one of the main reasons why they left is because they have lost confidence in the new management led by Director General Ebrima Sillah.

“People are leaving for better jobs. The situation at GRTS is so bad under Sillah that the best young ones are leaving. There is no promotion and Sillah is seemingly more interested in hunting per diems than taking care of his staff.”

Some of the journalists that resigned include Fatou Jassey, who holds a degree in journalism from Coventry University in England.

For Abdoulie Badjie, he abandoned the national broadcaster to further his studies in England, where he bagged his Bachelor’s Degree last year.

Abdoulie was unquestionably one of the nation’s favourite news anchors.

Our sourced continued: “All these young people left within two months. They resigned because there is no progress at GRTS. Sillah has been DG for less than 8 months but he is not the nicest DG. He shouts at people and sometimes threatens to fire us.”

“All the people that left were really good at their job.  They were all news readers who were loved by the viewers. I am just a concerned staff because it’s sad all the good young ones with qualifications are leaving for better jobs.”

The other senior staff members that left the national broadcaster are Famara Fofana and Ndey Kumba Demba.
