It is a pageant that has attracted a lot of controversy and outrage in the past four years. In this edition of What’s On-Gambia, we present to you the most talked-about winners and runners-up of the Miss 22nd July Scholarship and Beauty Pageant:
Ndey Oley Taal
She is from the famous Taal family of Banjul. Ndey Oley was among the girls that took part in the maiden edition of the pageant. She emerged second (1st runner-up) winning a scholarship to study any course of her choice in any country.
The young beauty, who is known for her party girl antics, bagged a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Designing and Arts at the West London College in England.
Masabi Camara
She was a teenager when she took part in the Miss 22nd July Pageant in 2011. The former West African International School student was crowned the winner.
Masabi is also a model that is widely admired on the runway for her slim frame. She got married to a millionaire. However, What’s On-Gambia was unable to confirm whether the marriage is still strong.
Haddijatou Hydara
She won the crown in 2013 in front of dozens of dignitaries from both the private and public sector.
Shortly after the pageant, Haddijatou bagged a job with the national broadcaster, GRTS. She was co-presenter of a talk show dubbed, What’s Up. Some of the men she was linked to after entering the spotlight include Syrian-born Africell boss, Raafat Al-Ahmar.
Fatou A Jallow
She was crowned Miss 22nd July in the year 2015. Fatou was at the centre of a media storm after revealing how she was sexually abused by the pageant’s founder and chief patron, former President Jammeh.
